Who We Are & What We Do
UP&Out is a queer* student society that provides a safe space for queer* students on campus. We provide a place to socialize and form meaningful connections.
We've played a key role in raising awareness of how to be respectful of people's identities and educating people on gender, sexuality through workshops and Round Table Talks that are open to all.
Mission
Up&Out is a society in the University of Pretoria. The Society is dedicated to creating a free, equal and
equitable environment for the LGBTQIA+ community within the University of Pretoria. Creating
spaces in which queer people feel safe and have a means to meet and socialize with other queer
people.
Vision
We aim to welcome all students regardless of their sex, gender, sexual orientation, and
race. We are a student society that aims to help students find a niche in which to
feel comfortable with themselves and their sexuality.
Values
Anti-discriminatory
Anyone is welcome in our society and at our events, regardless of race, background, religion, sexuality and gender.
Apolitical
UP&Out is not politically affiliated and will not promote, campaign for or donate to any political parties.
Intersectional
UP&Out acknowledges that everyone has their own unique experiences of discrimination and oppression and strives to address issues that impact both members and students alike.
Uplifting others
We are aware that no one succeeds by going solo, so we uplift smaller societies as well as the marginalized groups around us. We aim to collaborate and support everyone around us.
Transparent
UP&Out aims to maintain transparency in how the society is run, as well as larger issues we aim to address.

My duties basically entail supporting the Chairperson in executing their duties. I subsequently enjoy working with queer people for the greater good of the queer community.
